What the "near you" box uses

The homepage near-you box makes a rough, town-sized guess from your internet connection, and that guess isn't stored. If you type a ZIP instead, only your own browser remembers it.

Using Repairs.company · Updated Nov 2, 2026

The homepage has a "near you" box that suggests a town so you can get to local repair businesses quickly. Here is what it uses to pick that town, and what it keeps.

A rough guess from your connection

To choose a town, the box makes a rough guess at your area based on your internet connection. At best it is about town-sized, and it can be off. Internet connections don't always appear to be where you actually are, so the town it suggests may be a neighboring one, or somewhere else entirely.

The guess is not stored. It is used to pick a town for the box when you load the page.

Typing a ZIP code instead

If the suggested town is wrong, or you would rather not rely on a guess, type your ZIP code into the box. That ZIP is remembered only in your own browser, so the box can show the same area the next time you visit from that browser. It is not saved on our side.

Because the ZIP lives in your browser, it doesn't follow you to another device or another browser. To make it forget the ZIP, type a different one, or clear this site's data in your browser's settings.

You don't have to use it

The near-you box is a shortcut, not a requirement. You can always:

Contacting a business

When you contact a repair business, you do it directly, by phone or through its website. Repairs.company doesn't take bookings or pass messages along, so whatever you share is between you and that business.
