How listings are ordered

Businesses on a paid plan come first, each with a label naming its plan. Everyone else is listed by distance from the town, then by rating. Nobody can pay to change a review or rating.

When you open a town page, or the page for one kind of repair in a town, the businesses are listed in a set order. Here is exactly how that order works, so you know what you are looking at.

1. Businesses on a paid plan

Businesses that pay for a plan are listed first, highest plan first:

  1. Top Spot
  2. Featured
  3. Verified

Each of these listings carries a visible label naming its plan, so it is always clear which businesses are placed there because they pay.

Top Spot is not exclusive. If several Top Spot businesses serve the same town, they are all listed first, in order of distance from the town.

2. Everyone else

After the paid listings come all the other businesses that serve the town, ordered by distance from the town and then by rating.

Distance is measured from where each business is based, not from the edge of the area it serves. Among these listings, a business based farther away that covers your town will still appear on your town's page, just after businesses based nearer.

What money can't change

  • Nobody can pay to change a review or a rating.
  • A plan changes where a listing is placed and adds a label. It says nothing about the quality of the work.
  • "Verified" means the business pays for the Verified plan. Repairs.company does not check licenses, insurance, certifications or workmanship.
  • When a plan lapses, the business stops being placed ahead. Its listing goes back into the ordering by distance and rating, like any other.

Category pages

Category pages, such as Plumbing Repair, list businesses by the kind of repair they do. Businesses on any paid plan appear ahead of free listings on the category pages for the repairs they offer, highest plan first.

Filters

Town and repair pages have filters for businesses that come to you, take drop-offs, offer pickup and delivery, same-day service, free estimates or a warranty on repairs, and for work on homes or businesses. Filters narrow the list to the businesses that offer what you ticked. They are a way for you to find what you need, not something a business can buy.

Which businesses appear at all

A business appears on a town's page when the town is inside the area it serves: a radius around where it is based, plus any extra towns, ZIP codes or counties it names. It also appears on that town's page for each repair it offers.

If you run a repair business and want to know what each plan includes, see Plans and pricing.
